Thomas J. Parr graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, New York, and earned his Medical Degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas. He completed a rotating internship and an orthopedic surgery residency at the Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Parr served as a Colonel in the U.S. Army Medical Corps and is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. He is licensed the practice in the state of Texas.

For many years, Dr. Parr has been named one of the ‘most recommended’ doctors in the United States by the 'Guide to Top Doctors,' as well as one of Texas’ 'Super Doctors' by Texas Monthly magazine. He has also received numerous teaching awards which include the AOA Honor Medical Society Award as Outstanding Volunteer Faculty Teacher at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center, Houston, where he is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopedics. In June 2005, he was inducted in the Impact Players Hall of Fame for lifetime commitment to the American military. Other 2005 inductees include former President George H.W. Bush, Coaches Dom Capers and Bum Phillips, and Roger Clemens.

Dr. Parr currently has hospital appointments at the Doctors' Surgical Center, Methodist Hospital - Sugar Land, the Houston Shriner's Hospital for Children, Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital, Memorial Hermann Fort Bend Hospital, and West Houston Medical Center.

His professional associations include the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the association of Military surgeons of the U.S., the American Medical Association, the Society of Military Orthopedic Society, the Harris County Medical Society, and the Texas Medical Association. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Parr and his wife are active in a number of community organizations, in addition to his volunteer work at the Houston Shriner's Hospital and the University of Texas Health Sciences Center, Houston.
